Sport Resolutions’ Contributions to the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Sport Resolutions’ Contributions to the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games

The summer of 2024 witnessed spectacular Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, showing breathtaking performances and record-breaking achievements across various sports. The Games continued to inspire the world through incredible displays of determination, courage, and skill.

At Sport Resolutions, we were proud to play a key role in the lead-up to the Games. This summer, we handled 10 selection cases, adding to the 100+ selection cases we have conducted since 2017, spanning over 20 different sports. In advance of the Games, we also provided standby cover for 14 Olympic and Paralympic sports during their selection periods. Given the expedited nature of selection matters, often requiring resolution within 72 hours or less, arbitrators, pro bono assistance, and case managers were on standby during the appeal window to address any referred appeals.

Through our training programs, we educate sports bodies on effective selection processes and the management of selection appeal procedures. We take pride in delivering independent and fair processes to resolve selection issues.

In addition to our selection casework, Sport Resolutions operated and administered an ad hoc independent tribunal during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic tennis events. This tribunal was established to handle expedited matters under ITF Regulations and was available throughout the tennis competitions of both Games.

This tribunal was composed of members from our highly regarded International Panel, from countries including Australia, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, Great Britain, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, and Ukraine.

Furthermore, members of Sport Resolutions' Pro Bono Legal Advice & Representation Service were available to offer support to tennis players and personnel throughout both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Richard Harry, Chief Executive of Sport Resolutions, said: “We are delighted to have contributed to such a prestigious event, ensuring that fair and independent processes were in place to support athletes and uphold the values of integrity and transparency at the heart of the Olympic and Paralympic movements.”
