TRAINING | How to Investigate Safeguarding Concerns in Sport

Sport Resolutions will be hosting a free online training session for welfare and safeguarding officers of NGBs and other sporting bodies on how to investigate safeguarding concerns in sport on Thursday 17th June 2021. Former police officer and Sport Resolutions National Safeguarding Panel member Carol Chamberlain and Safeguarding Today’s director Jennie Smith will be delivering the training with the aim of raising awareness and increasing knowledge around safeguarding investigations in sport, with a particular focus on the interview techniques.

The event will also introduce the new Investigation Guide and templates created by Sport Resolutions NSP members Carol Chamberlain, Christopher Quinlan QC and Sally Wernick with the support of Sport England.

Carol Chamberlain

Carol retired as a senior police officer in 2008. Since that date she has acted as an independent safeguarding consultant within the sport sector. She was an inaugural member of the National Safeguarding Panel co-ordinated by Sport Resolutions.

Carol has been commissioned by many National Governing Body’s to undertake a variety of roles which include; conducting strategic level, whole sport safeguarding reviews, individual case investigations, the delivery of training, and acting as the safeguarding specialist member on disciplinary panels.

Carol is an independent member of the safeguarding Case Management Group at Badminton England and the Director of Governance on the Board of the Cheshire County Ladies Golf Association.

Criminal Barrister and Founder of Safeguarding Today, Jennie’s specialism has been child protection for the last 20 years, and sport safeguarding for the past four years.

Jennie and her team work at NGB and Professional Club level, providing training, Supervison and consultancy services. A recent winner in the North West Football Awards, Business and Professional Services Category, Safeguarding Today has placed Safeguarding at the heart of governance for sports, alongside Legal, IT, Finance and HR.
