International Paralympic Committee seeking panel members

International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is seeking panel members for its Independent Board of Appeal of Classification

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is a non-profit organisation based in Bonn, Germany and is the global governing body of the Paralympic Movement. In particular, the IPC owns and supervises the organisation of the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games. The IPC is committed to enabling Paralympic athletes to achieve sporting excellence and to developing sport opportunities for all persons with a disability from the beginner to elite level. In addition, the IPC aims to promote the Paralympic values, which include courage, determination, inspiration and equality.

Key responsibilities:

• To consider and where applicable hear classification appeals from Para sports and such other matters as set out in the bylaws. Hearings typically take place by telephone conference and are arranged based on the availability of the hearing panel and the parties.
• For each case three panel members are usually appointed (from the pool of panel members), subject to availability. The chair of each hearing panel will be responsible for writing a full and reasoned judgment in accordance with the relevant rules.
• Certain administrative support is provided by the IPC. 
• Panel members report to the independent chair of the Board of Appeal of Classification.
• This is a voluntary role and as such there is no remuneration. However, expenses are paid in accordance with the IPC’s policies.

Competencies and qualifications:

• A good understanding of Para sport and the classification system.

• Ability to assess and interpret evidence and give reasoned findings.
• Dealing with cases in a timely, confidential and professional manner.
• Able to work in a highly confidential setting.
• Fluency in English.
• The following are not required but will be an asset: legal expertise (in particular on regulatory matters); medical expertise; experience with Para sport.
