Sport Resolutions to launch the Safeguarding Case Management Pilot Service

Sport Resolutions to launch the Safeguarding Case Management Pilot Service

We are delighted to launch the Safeguarding Case Management Pilot Service with the invaluable support of Sport England.

Sport Resolutions (SR) is thrilled to be providing a case management service for nine National Governing Bodies (NGBs) in relation to their respective safeguarding functions. The Pilot, supported by National Lottery funding, will provide the participating NGBs with access to administrative support from SR staff, and expert safeguarding support services from members of the National Safeguarding Panel for Sport (NSP).

The objective of the Pilot is to provide end to end case management support to NGBs in relation to safeguarding concerns and referrals. At Sport Resolutions our goal is to assist NGBs to deal with matters fairly and independently.

This ground-breaking project has the potential to revolutionise the management of safeguarding cases in sport.

In order to facilitate the increased work created by the Pilot we have bolstered the numbers on the NSP, adding individuals from policing and social care, in addition to high profile legal and judicial members.

Along with our project partners, Sport England and LimeCulture CIC, who are a specialist organisation supporting safeguarding in sport, our intention is to forever positively change how safeguarding cases are managed in a way that is capable of being expanded to assist other NGBs in the sector.

Three main services provided by SR:

Initial advice and guidance

This will enable the NGB to contact Sport Resolutions in the initial stages of a referral to seek guidance and advice on how to respond to any safeguarding concern raised.

Investigations

In the event that the NGB, through its own enquiries or with the prior support of an SR appointed individual (i.e. NSP member), decides that a safeguarding concern should be investigated, SR will appoint a suitably qualified person from the NSP to act as an investigator to work with the NGB and support the NGB with its investigation.

Hearings

SR will provide panels of suitably qualified individuals to determine matters at both first instance and appeal.

Benefits of this process:

  • Fair, independent and transparent
  • Timely
  • Cost effective
  • Complies with rules of natural justice
  • Uniform approach
  • Will engender confidence with all parties, including athletes and coaches
  • Reduces the likelihood of complaint or later challenge
  • Provides an opportunity to collect and collate data on prevalence and trends

The participating sports bodies are;

  • Badminton England
  • Baseball/Softball UK
  • British Fencing
  • British Judo
  • Rounders England
  • Table Tennis England
  • British Wheelchair Basketball
  • England Squash
  • England Lacrosse
